Katalin Ertsey was born in Debrecen, Hungary. Since starting lute at the age of twelve, she has gone on to graduate from the Royal College of Music, London, where she studied the renaissance lute and theorbo with Jakob Lindberg. Katalin also holds the Master of Science degree from the University of Debrecen, specializing in Hydrobiology.

Katalin regularly appears as a soloist, accompanist and continuo player in concerts throughout the UK and mainland Europe. Engagements have included Monteverdi Vespers with Brandenburg Baroque Soloists, Rebel Les élémens with Linden Baroque Orchestra, a UK tour with Zadok Baroque ensemble, Handel’s La Resurrezione at the London Handel Festival, Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea for the RCM International Opera School, appearance at the London City Showcase Festival, a lute song recital for the New London Orchestra Young Performers Concert Series, and Michael Chance’s lute song masterclass.

Katalin has collaborated with the Shakespeare’s Globe and appeared on ITV1 in the Inspector Lewis series. She has given solo recitals in venues such as Victoria and Albert Museum, British Library and National Gallery, London.

Katalin regularly performs with the Swedish soprano Eva Karell, with whom she is also the first prizewinner of the RCM Early Music Competition. She is a member and co-founder of Tesoro Antico baroque ensemble with whom she has recently performed at St Lawrence Jewry Music Festival.
